Your Truck

• Yeah, I crashed your truck
• On that empty desert road,
• A Palo Verde tree, Or God,
• Got me to wake up
• You said,
• "Let’s just push it back Over."
• I laughed insanely with the stars,
• Slept at a friends house
• Called my mother
• who asked if I wanted
• to come home.

• I return to an uprooted childhood
• Back to where I started
• Slamming deli sandwiches
• On one thousand dollar
• lunch hours for doctors
• and lawyers who have no idea
• how hard I work for that
• Six-seventy-five per hour
•  
• And I'm wishing I hadn't
• driven that truck of your
• That Destructo could have
• waited a day or two more
• It didn't matter
• I was already evicted
• Had a pregnant cat
• got fired from my job
• Day before my birthday
• Lost all my dignity.
•  
• Now I sit at a coffee house
• with other poets
• In a town I barely know
• No girlfriend, no best friend
• Just crazy thoughts
• running around my head
• and I thought I needed you
• for some kind of sex release
• your body, your money,
• your truck, became
• My freedom.
